When I was rudely told "we don't give refills." Thought it was so strange.wouldn't you want/expect your guests to drink? Wouldn't offer something? Andy ruiz fight undercards9/7/2023 ![]() It’s a matter of sparring a lot and getting that back. It’s more the timing and reflexes and finding your distance. But for me, as the fighter who’s been out, it’s more about the timing. It’s Miguel Flores in front of me and we’ll see what happens after that. “I’m not putting pressure on myself about what comes next. It’s one of those opportunities that you hardly ever get. My family and friends are coming to see me spar, because I know this could be my last fight. I’m enjoying myself and enjoying my progress. “What I’m doing this camp, that I haven’t done a lot in the past, is enjoy it. I’m sparring younger fighters, but I have to be smart, while still getting great conditioning in. “Once you get to a certain point of your life, you have to train differently. I can’t wait for September 4 because it’s a comeback that I’ve asked for and it’s more meaningful because it’s happening here in L.A. I’m overjoyed with gratitude more than anything. “I’m happy to be on this card and happy to be back, period. Give me short guys or tall guys, I’m going to fight and I’m going to do everything I can to beat my opponent. It’s about what me and my team believe fits me best. I’m going to go where the biggest fights are. “I’m not going to close any doors on what division I’ll fight in. I’ll see what doors open after this and then make the best decision for my career. I’m expecting a positive result from this fight. “I try to live in the moment and not make too many plans. I want to face the best and I’ll be ready to do so on September 4. But I know that I can do whatever I set my mind to, because I crave the challenges that come my way. “I never think about a particular fight in a way that adds pressure. I fully believe that I’m up to the challenge and that I have to defeat Isaac to achieve everything I have in mind for my career. I respect Isaac and I know that we’re both on winning streaks. “I’ve fought a lot of high-quality opponents. It’s going to be a great fight and I’m counting down the days until it’s fight night. “I’m so excited for this challenge on September 4. When the time comes, I hope they step up to the plate and take on the challenge.” EDUARDO RAMIREZ “I’m ready for any of the top fighters at lightweight. I can guarantee that the experience that I’m going to acquire going forward will make me more aware of everything surrounding me and make me even better in that rematch against Gervonta Davis. “I am a more mature and experienced fighter than I’ve been in the past. I have a serious opponent in front of me now, but I know I have what it takes to bring the title back to Mexico City. All I have to do is take down every single opponent who they put in front of me. “The fight against Gervonta Davis motivated me and gave me the goal of wanting to face him again. We’ll be ready for whatever he brings into the ring. “I’m planning to welcome Eduardo Ramirez to the division in the harshest of ways. Eduardo Ramirez is a very tough and complicated rival for me. “We’re not going to take anything away from anybody, because we know what he’s capable of. I can’t wait to get in the ring and compete. ![]() “I’m thrilled about this fight because the fans are going to be the true winners. Conversations with tyler peter thiel9/7/2023 ![]() That growth is largely thanks to new philanthropies built on wealth from technology, data, and finance, she says. Contributions from higher education funds, which include money donors gave to university endowments in the past, increased from $1.9 billion to more than $14 billion in that same period. Nonprofit and philanthropic contributions for basic research increased from $1.5 billion in 1990 to $9.8 billion in 2020, according to NSF surveys. The impact of private donors has grown since the 1990s, says France Córdova, president of the Science Philanthropy Alliance, which works to increase giving to science research. That margin is narrowing, according to National Science Foundation surveys. Today federal funding for basic science, which provides a foundation for knowledge and discovery rather than solving a specific problem, still exceeds the combined contributions from corporations, universities, and philanthropy. The federal government became the majority funder of basic science research at universities and nonprofit research institutes in the post-World War II era. Rockefeller, who wanted to reimagine the institutions of science in the 1910s, ’20s and ’30s. He sees parallels between today’s donors and Andrew Carnegie and John D. “There is a sort of ‘back to the future’ element to what these guys are doing,” says Eric John Abrahamson, a historian at work on a book about science philanthropy. Private donors have long played a role in shaping science in the United States - from the creation of the modern research universities to the independent research institutions of the early 20th century and beyond. Others question the societal implications when more science research is driven by a handful of tech elites motivated by the “move fast and break things” ethos. Many of the experiments are similar to approaches already backed by government, leading some to question whether small-scale funding experiments in science are money well spent. ![]() While these contributions are just a drop in the bucket compared with the nearly $50 billion the NIH spends on research each year, they’ve been met with both applause and ambivalence from scientists and philanthropy observers. "In 1995, a boy named Andy got a Buzz Lightyear toy for his birthday. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for its animation, score, visuals, technical aspects, and entertainment value, but criticism for its screenplay. The film grossed over $226.4 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget, becoming a box-office bomb and losing the studio an estimated $106 million. It became the first Pixar film to be released in theaters worldwide since Onward in March 2020, and the first to include scenes specifically formatted for IMAX theaters. Lightyear premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on June 8, 2022, and was theatrically released in the United States on June 17, in RealD 3D, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX formats. Michael Giacchino composed the film's score, while Ren Klyce served as its sound designer. Development on Lightyear lasted for five and a half years, on an approximate $200 million budget. For its IMAX scenes, the team used two virtual cameras, a regular camera with a 35mm equivalent sensor, and a larger sensor equivalent to 65 millimeters, a procedure earlier initiated by Pixar in WALL-E (2008). To design the vehicles of the film, MacLane used Lego pieces to build various ships and pitch them to the designers and artists. The animators gave the film a "cinematic" and "chunky" look, evoking the science-fiction films MacLane grew up watching. ![]() The project was officially announced in an investor meeting held by Disney in December 2020. ![]() MacLane, an avid science-fiction fan, pitched the idea of a film featuring Buzz Lightyear at Pixar, after finishing work on Finding Dory (2016). The concept of a human Buzz Lightyear, who exists in a fictional universe within a fictional universe, was first introduced in the 2000 direct-to-video film Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, which was then used as the pilot to the TV series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000–2001). The film follows Buzz Lightyear (Evans) operating as a space ranger who, after being marooned on the hostile planet T'Kani Prime with his commander and crew, tries to find a way back home while encountering a threat to the universe's safety. It stars Chris Evans as the voice of the titular character, with Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, and Uzo Aduba in supporting roles. The film was directed by Angus MacLane (in his feature directorial debut) and produced by Galyn Susman, from a screenplay and story written by MacLane and Jason Headley, both of whom co-wrote the latter with Matthew Aldrich. Lightyear centers on the character Buzz Lightyear, who in this film is human and not a toy. The film is a spin-off of the Toy Story film series, but does not take place in the same fictional universe as them rather, it is presented as a film that some of the characters in the main Toy Story films have seen. Lightyear is a 2022 American computer-animated science-fiction action-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. ![]()
